PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mesa oscillating piece that has an improved frequency variable sensitivity and suppresses unwanted vibrations, and to provide a mesa-type oscillation device.;SOLUTION: The mesa-type oscillation piece 10 has a thick portion 14 and a thin portion 16. An exciting electrode 22 is provided on the major surface of the thick portion 14 and the major surface of the thin portion 16, located in a displacing direction of main oscillation excited in the mesa oscillating piece 10 and in a direction extending from the thick portion 14. An end portion 22a of the excitation electrode 22, an end portion 14a of the thick portion 14, the other-end portion 14b of the thick portion 14 and the other-end portion 22b of the excitation electrode 22 in the displacing direction of the main oscillation are provided at positions of antinodes of the undesired oscillation.
