PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a catalyst high in purification rate even to a waste gas containing a lower saturated hydrocarbon in a high proportion to the total amount of hydrocarbon and demonstrating constant catalytic activity even under a condition, in which a sulfur compound is present, by making palladium carried on a super strong acid zirconia.;SOLUTION: A super strong acid zirconia itself, for example, a sulfuric acid radical zirconia obtained by treating with a sulfuric acid radical can be prepared by baking at a temperature of 500-650°C, after sulfuric acid is brought into contact with an amorphous zirconium oxide or a hydroxy zirconium as substrate, or after there substrates are impregnated with ammonium sulfate.
