The present invention provides cell lines useful for the rapid detection of enterovirus. In particular, transgenic African green monkey kidney cell lines and the present invention provides a transgenic buffalo green monkey kidney cell line. Compared to other cell types, which are currently used for the detection of enterovirus, the invention provides a cell line sensitive to infection with enterovirus in cultures single cell types and mixed cell types is increased. In addition, the cells of the present invention, as compared to cell types cells of the present invention is derived, there is tolerance to infection with enterovirus many more.
