PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology capable of detecting a failure of a fuel shut-off valve in structure provided with a plurality of accumulators and the fuel shut-off valve for shutting off the fuel to the accumulators except at least one accumulator. PSOLUTION: The fuel injection device for an internal combustion engine is provided with a plurality of fuel injection valves, a plurality of accumulators and the fuel shut-off valve for shutting off the fuel to the accumulators except at least one accumulator in the case wherein the pressure of the fuel fed by pressure from a fuel pump is lower than the predetermined pressure. For example, when the pressure of the fuel inside the accumulator, to which fuel supply is not shut off by the fuel shut-off valve, becomes higher than the predetermined pressure, in the case wherein the pressure of the fuel inside the accumulator, to which fuel supply is shut off, is lower than the pressure obtained by subtracting the pressure lowered by fuel injection from the predetermined pressure, a closing failure that the fuel shut-off valve does not open as it is closed is diagnosed.
