PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a plasmid which allows efficiently expressing and producing an n-3 highly unsaturated fatty acid such as eicosapentaenoic acid(EPA) in a Gram-negative bacterium, and a cyanobacterium transduced with the plasmid to efficiently express and produce an n-3 highly unsaturated fatty acid. ;SOLUTION: This cyanobacterium is obtained by transducing a plasmid obtained by cloning genes encoding eicosapentaenoic acid-biosynthesizing genes encoded by specific 6 base sequences ino a broad-spectrum vector. The n-3 highly unsaturated fatty acid such as EPA is useful for medicine, food, feed, etc. The cyanobacterium used for the production is advantageous economically and environmentally.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2001,JPO
