PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce magnetic leakage from a super-magnetostrictive actuator to the outside.;SOLUTION: A super-magnetostrictive actuator is provided with a super-magnetostrictive element 11, a coil 12 for applying a magnetic field to the super-magnetorestrictive element 11, a shaft 13 driven in an axial direction by the expansion and contraction of the super-magnetostrictive element 11 which corresponds to magnetic field application, and a magnetic bias applying means for applying a magnetic bias to the super-magnetostrictive element 11. The magnetic bias applying means includes a magnetic material 16a without having substantially any residual magnetic flux and a permanent magnet 16b, wherein the magnetic body 16a is arranged at an end on the side of the shaft 13 of the super-magnetostrictive element 11 and the permanent magnet 16b is arranged at an end part opposite from the shaft 13 of the super-magnetostrictive element 11. Because the magnetic material 16a without having substantially any residual magnetic flux is provided at the end on the side of the shaft 13 in this way, it is possible to effectively suppress magnetic leakage at the side of the shaft 13.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
