PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stably obtain a PVA-based water-soluble fiber without a problem of gelling, etc.;SOLUTION: This water-soluble thermoplastic polyvinyl alcohol fiber comprises a composition at least as one component which is composed of a water-soluble thermoplastic polyvinyl alcohol (A) having 200-600 viscosity- average polymerization degree, 90-99.9 mol% saponification degree, 70-99.9 mol% mol fraction of middle hydroxyl group in a sequence of three hydroxyl groups by triad expression based on the vinyl alcohol unit and 160-230°C melting point and containing 0.0003-1 mass part calculated as sodium ion of alkali metal ion and an ethylene oxide(EO)/propylene oxide(PO) random copolymer (B) having 1,000 to 20,000 average molecular weight and the ratio EO/PO of ethylene oxide (EO) to propylene oxide (PO) of 15/85 to 85/15 and has 1-30 mass % content of the component (B).;COPYRIGHT: (C)2001,JPO
