PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stably obtain a water-soluble polyvinyl alcohol filament (continuous filament) excellent in shape retaining properties by a melt spinning method. ;SOLUTION: This filament comprises (A) a polyvinyl alcohol having 200-500 viscosity-average degree of polymerization, 90-99.99 mol% degree of saponification and 70-99.9 mol% molar fraction of central hydroxyl group of the hydroxyl group three chains by triad indication based on the vinyl alcohol unit, contains (B) an alkali metal ion in an amount of 0.0003-1 pt.wt. based on 100 pts.wt. of the component A and expressed in terms of sodium ion and has 50-135°C wet heat dissolution temperature, ≥1 g/denier fiber strength and ≤30% wet heat shrinkage percentage at (wet heat dissolution temperature -25°C).;COPYRIGHT: (C)2000,JPO
