Subject: grounding system for ac and dc electrified railway lines. Main embodiment: efficient grounding of columns and metal constructions or devices set next to the railway tracks. The switching of the grounding system from traction grounding (railway tracks) regarding ac electrification to structural grounding (earth) regarding dc electrification is obtained by hand-operated or automatically-operated commutation switches or commutation relays adapted as a whole or in groups to the columns and supporting constructions of the catenary as well as to metal constructions or devices set next to the railway tracks (see fig.1,2,3).
