SMART NETWORKABLE SENSOR WITH EMBEDDED COMPENSATION TECHNIQUES FOR PRECISE DATA ACQUISITION

''A smart networkable sensor" A smart sensor with RS485 output is developed, which integrates a conventional or MEMS (Micro Electro Mechanical System) sensor and front-end electronics into a single module. The electronics includes mainly the signal conditioner, digitization circuit and micro-controller. The intelligence is embedded into the smart sensor module means of the micro-controller. The output of the smart sensor is transmitted in digital form so that all disadvantages associated with analog transmission are reduced. A piecewise software temperature compensation algorithm has been embedded in the micro-controller inside the smart sensor to compensate for any ambient temperature drifts from 5% or more to an accuracy of up to 0.1% of full scale output and over a temperature range of 0-70°C. The smart sensors can communicate in a 2-wire RS485 multi-drop bus. Fig.l
