The invention relates to a multifunction device for the study of the chip removal process in classical lathes, meant to bore holes in various metallic materials. According to the invention, the device comprises a subassembly (I) mounted within the main shaft of a classical lathe, containing a device (1) to switch the chip removal process off. The rotation of the mechanism is stopped concomitantly with the withdrawal of some bolts (2) by means of some extensible levers (3), which are in contact, on some surfaces (a) with some pieces (4), along some guiding surfaces (b) as a chipping tool (6) has an advance motion, a faceplate integral with the guiding pieces (4) being displaced by means of some mandrels (5), as well as a subassembly (II) mounted on a cross-slide rest (9) of the lathe, which contains the chipping tool (6) oriented and fixed in the working position on a variable-resistance strain, force and chipping moment transducer (7), said subassembly (II) being supported by a device (8) for orienting the chipping tool (6) moving along some guides (10) of the machine-tool.
