Thus, the invention comprises a method of treating a material, comprising an aluminum alloy or an aluminum matrix compound, wherein said method comprises the preparation of the surface of the material and its subsequent laser surface modification. In addition, the invention relates both to a new material, resulting from the aforementioned treatment, whose composition comprises an aluminum alloy or a matrix compound, preferably with ceramic reinforcement, which has a fine, hard microstructure, resistant to wear and corrosion , such as the use of treated material in industrial applications.
