A low friction sliding mechanism comprising: a first and a second sliding member and a compound containing organic oxygen between them; the first sliding member including a base material having a surface; and forming a thin film of hard carbon on at least a part of the surface of the base material; where a tribological film is formed having at least one functional group selected from the group consisting of an ether bond, an oxide group and a hydroxyl group on the hard carbon thin film when the hard carbon thin film is in sliding contact with the second sliding member in the presence of the compound containing organic oxygen; and including the second opposing sliding member a base material having a surface, and a thin hard carbon film forming on at least a part of the surface of the base material, where the tribological film having at least one functional group selected from the group that it consists of an ether bond, an oxide group and a hydroxyl group is formed on the thin hard carbon film when the thin hard carbon film is in sliding contact with the first sliding member in the presence of the organic oxygen containing compound.
