The present invention relates to a method for obtaining analgesia byadministering 3-(1H-imidazol-4-ylmethyl)-indan-5-ol, itsenetiomer or pharmaceutically acceptable ester or salt thereof to a mammalintraspinally. 3-(1H-imidazol-4-ylmethyl)-indan-5-ol, itsenantiomer or a pharmaceutically acceptable ester or salt thereof can beadministered intraspinally to a mammal obtaining analgesia withoutside-effects, such as sedation. The present invention also relates to a methodfor using the drug as an adjunct to anaesthesia by administeringit intraspinally.
