The present invention enables improved and more efficient recharging ofelectriccars, preferably by using improved batteries and/or improved rechargerarrangements in electric cars and/or in infrastructures that are used forrechargingelectric cars, and/or other improvements in the infrastructures, whilepreferably alsoprotecting the electric grid from overload. This is preferably done forexample byaccumulating energy in service stations for example in special preferably highspeedcapacitors, such as for example one or more super capacitors, and/or forexampleone or more molten salt accumulators and/or for example in the new M1batteriesdeveloped by A123 Systems or similar batteries or other fast batteries whichcan berecharged for example to 80% capacity within 5 minutes, or for example thesimilarfast new batteries by Toshiba or for example the BYD Iron Phosphate batteriesorfor example the Altair Nanotechnologies Nanosafe battery, so that preferablytheseaccumulators can be used for example to recharge cars with M1 batteries orsimilarfast-recharge batteries, since otherwise the service station would need tohave ahuge capacity power supply to enable such fast recharges. Other coveredvariationsinclude for example efficient methods of recharging the batteries preferablyserially, either in the service station (based on a model of fast replacement ofbatteries at theservice station), preferably after automatically sorting the batteries intomore or lesshomogenous groups, or in the car itself for example by automatically reroutingthebatteries or some of them or elements in them during recharge so that they arerecharged more serially than during the normal operation of the car, thusenablingrecharge with less rechargers and/or at higher voltages and with less currentand lessproblems of heat during recharge. Other described improvements include forexample a system wherein when recharging the electric cars, for examplerechargersand/or for example one or more central computers for example in the electricalgridcompany and/or in the service provider take into account also car-specificparameters in order to optimize the recharging priorities, for example basedon thestate of their batteries and/or for example also based on additionalparameters and/orheuristics and/or statistics and/or for example automatic repeatedidentification ofcars based for example on a unique preferably digital ID number, so that forexample the system can take into account also various regular and/orhistorical car-specific parameters and/or patterns and/or statistics, such as for exampletypicalarrival and departure times, typical distances traveled, specific needs basedon weekdays, etc. Other features include for example a system and method for alertinguserswhen a parking and/or recharging post becomes available and/or reserving theminadvance. Other features include for example various improvements in theelectriccars themselves.
