Provided is a method and apparatus for locating a survivor. The method includes thesteps of: receiving a rescue signal from the search and rescue beacon through asearch and rescue satellite; extracting distance information from the search andrescue beacon to a navigation satellite measured by the navigation chipset andinformation on the navigation satellite from the rescue signal; receiving distanceinformation from the search and rescue satellite to the search and rescue beaconmeasured by the search and rescue satellite; determining the location of thesearch and rescue beacon by unifying the distance information and the navigation satelliteinformation when the number of available navigation satellites are less than4.
