This invention relates to a method for performing an oblivious query issued by a first party on a string xB provided by a second party. A query is provided in the form of a finite automaton M by a first party. An interactive protocol is run between the first and the second party to determine whether the string xB is accepted by the automaton M, without exchanging with each other the string xB and the finite automaton M.
