Polymeric prodrugs of the formula: wherein B is selected from the group consisting of OH, leaving groups, residues of amine-containing moieties and a residues of hydroxyl-containing moieties; YSUB1 /SUBis selected from the group consisting of O, S, and NRSUB5/SUB; M is NRSUB3/SUB, O or S; Ar is a moiety which when included in Formula I forms a multi-substituted aromatic or heteroaromatic hydrocarbon or a multi-substituted heterocyclic group; (m) is zero or a positive integer; RSUB1-3 /SUBand RSUB5 /SUBare independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, CSUB1-6 /SUBalkyls, CSUB3-12 /SUBbranched alkyls, CSUB3-8 /SUBcycloalkyls, CSUB1-6 /SUBsubstituted alkyls, CSUB3-8 /SUBsubstituted cycloalkyls, aryls, substituted aryls, aralkyls, CSUB1-6 /SUBheteroalkyls, substituted CSUB1-6 /SUBheteroalkyls, CSUB1-6 /SUBalkoxy, phenoxy and CSUB1-6 /SUBheteroalkoxy; and RSUB4 /SUBis a polymeric residue; as well as methods of making and using the same are disclosed.
