The embodiments of the invention provide a method and MicroTCA system for expanding Micro Telecom Computing Architecture MicroTCA. On the MicroTCA system backplane, an AMC connector and Joint Test Action Group (JTAG) testing unit connector are configured into a slot of at least one Advanced Mezzanine Card (AMC). Configuring the JTAG testing unit connector using the existing AMC slot avoids occupying independent backplane space by configuring another JTAG slot, and thus saves backplane space. Furthermore, after the test is finished, the AMC can remain plugged in and normal use of AMC is not affected.
