A method for collecting geological data from a well bore (40) comprises sensing one or more geological parameters during drilling of the well bore hole using at least one sensor (72, 88., 90, 92) attached to a surface of a well casing (52) disposed in the well bore hole; collecting data from at least one of said sensors; and transmitting the data to the surface.;The parameter sensed may, for example, be temperature, pressure, acoustic energy, strain or stress.
