The present invention relates to peptides derived from cardiac troponin I (cTnl) which are the antigenic determinant(s) or pathogenic epitope(s) of cardiac troponin I (cTnl) and antibodies and antibody fragments specific for these peptides. The present invention furthermore relates to the use of these peptides, antibodies and antibody fragments for the prognosis and/or diagnosis of heart insufficiency, in particular of an inflammation of the myocardium and/or fibrosis. The present invention further relates to methods for the prognosis and/or diagnosis of heart insufficiency, in particular of an inflammation of the myocardium and/or fibrosis, utilizing the peptides.
