The invention relates to a method of managing an automatic milking (1) system comprising a milking robot (3), comprising the steps of : identifying a dairy animal which reports at the milking robot 3, admitting the dairy animal to the milking robot and/or milking same by means of the milking robot and/or storing milked milk in a milk tank (4), depending on particular criteria, characterized by monitoring a remaining capacity in the milk tank (4), and adapting criteria for admitting and/or milking the dairy animals and/or for storing the milked milk in the milk tank, depending on the relation between the remaining capacity of the milk tank and the period of time until a next emptying or collecting of the milk tank.
