This invention relates to an apparatus and method for accounting for carbon emissions. The invention provides an apparatus and method for accounting for carbon comprising the steps of: receiving an input to select an account; receiving financial data relating to said account; storing said financial data in a ledger; in the event that the account is labelled as requiring accounting for carbon, receiving carbon usage data; and storing said carbon usage data in a carbon ledger. The invention also provides an apparatus and method for entering budget data for an account; and displaying data in dependence upon stored budget information and stored carbon usage data.
