SATELLITE COMMUNICATION SYSTEM FOR PROVIDING BOTH VOICE SERVICE AND DATA SERVICE AND METHOD FOR PROVIDING SECURITY FUNCTION

A satellite communication system for providing both a voice service and a data service and a method for providing a security function are provided to combine a VoIP(Voice over Internet Protocol) technique with a satellite communication system, thereby integrally providing voice and data services. A satellite communication system includes a data communication terminal(100), a voice communication terminal(110), a gateway(130), a gatekeeper(140), a satellite communication network(160) and a router(150). The gateway and gatekeeper use an authenticating method and an encryption algorithm based on a password to authenticate/encrypt RAS(Registration, Authentication, Status) messages. The gateway and gatekeeper distributes a Diffie-Hellman parameter for encrypting a session key necessary for encrypting media data by using a call control message during call setting. The gateway and gatekeeper authenticates the call setting message by using the HMAC(Hash-based Message Authentication Code)-SHA1.
