A pharmaceutical composition for treating inflammatory disease and immune disease, which contains a metal nanoparticle is provided to suppress the generation of nitrogen oxide and cytokine and inhibit the activation of COX-2. A pharmaceutical composition for treating inflammatory diseases and immune diseases comprises a metal nanoparticle as an active ingredient. The metal nanoparticle is selected from gold nanoparticle, silver nanoparticle, and gold shell nanoparticle. Anti-inflammatory mechanism depends on the concentration of metal nanoparticle. The inflammatory disease or immune disease is arthritis, sepsis, inflammatory skin disease or autoimmune disease. The composition is formulated with a drug selected among anti-histamine drug, anti-inflammatory drug, anti-cancer drug, and antibiotic.
