A writing instrument with a calculation function using formula recognition and a calculation system using the formula recognition are provided to receive a formula directly through the writing instrument without hardware, thereby maximizing portability. A formula input unit(201) produces movement information data by sensing motion of a body end of a writing instrument. A formula recognizing unit(202) converts the movement information data into a formula which can be calculated. A calculating device(203) calculates a result value by calculating the recognized formula. A display device(206) outputs at least one between the recognized formula and the result value. A central controller(200) controls all kinds of data transmission. A power managing unit(205) supplies operation power.
