There is provided an exhaust gas temperature control system (14) according to an exemplary embodiment. The exhaust gas temperature control system (14) includes a tube (20) which is in flow connection with a gas turbine (12). The tube (20) is configured to receive exhaust gases from the gas turbine (12), and has one or more openings (22) extending therethrough. The exhaust gas temperature control system (14) further includes one or more spray nozzles (24) extending through the apertures (22) of the tube (20) extending therethrough. The atomizing nozzle (24) is configured to inject a fluid through the opening (22) in the tube (20), such that the liquid evaporates, and a temperature and an oxygen concentration of the exhaust gases in the tube (20) is reduced.
