The system has an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) pipe (8) for partially recirculation exhaust gas. A bypass pipe (9) of an EGR exchanger (82) is connected on a pipe (8) in upstream of a valve (81), and to the pipe (8) in downstream of the exchanger and in upstream of an EGR valve (83). A temperature sensor (101) measures temperature of recycled gas before admitting mixture with air into an engine. A regulation block (103) regulates the temperature of the recycled gas via a non linear action on a bypass valve (91) of the pipe (9) based on set point temperature of the gas. An independent claim is also included for a method for controlling an internal combustion engine.
