A digital X-ray image is stored with setting information relating to mechanical settings of a digital X-ray image recording system, settings of a control variable or settings of an image processing system such as were taken during image acquisition of the digital X-ray image concerned. An operator is thereby able to read out the setting information and restore the X-ray image recording situation. The setting conditions can even be restored automatically. This also applies to at least most of the mechanical settings.
