The method involves determining a current position (POS) of the motor vehicle and sending it to a stationary communication device (20). A response of the communication device is received, which represents whether the vehicle is on a lane, on which the vehicle is located and drove in the correct direction. A warning signal for a driver (17) of the vehicle is produced, if the vehicle is not drove in the correct direction and is automatically engaged into a driving system (12) of the vehicle.
