The method involves using a display system separated from a camera system (14) e.g. eye tracking system, where the display system is in form of a mirror (16). The display system is arranged with respect to main calibration elements and the camera system such that main calibration elements are detected through the display system by the camera system. Determination of position of the camera system with respect to a reference system is performed under consideration of the position of the display system with respect to the camera system. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a system for determining a position of the camera system (2) a computer program product for utilization during external calibration of a camera system to determine a layer of the camera system regarding to a reference system.
