The light has a lighting component (2) with two light coupling surface (8, 9) and two light uncoupling surfaces (4, 5). A light source (7) emits light (L2) on the light coupling surfaces and uncouples the light via the light uncoupling surface (5), to illuminate a number plate (3) attached to a tail of a vehicle (1). A light source (6) emits light (L1) on the light coupling surfaces and uncouples the light via the light uncoupling surface (4) in such a manner that the light is emitted rearwards for a back-up light.
