The method involves positioning a radiation source i.e. UV-dryer (9) of a processing machine i.e. sheet-fed printing machine, on a printing substrate, after application of colors/lacquers on the printing substrate. Components of the machine that are used for guiding UV-color and/or UV-lacquer are protected from UV-radiation of artificial or natural light using front, upper and rear UV-protection devices (11-13), before application of the UV-color and/or the UV-lacquer on the printing substrate. The UV-protection devices (11, 13) extend over damping rollers. An independent claim is also included for a device for processing colors and lacquers hardened under radiation in a processing machine for a printing substrate, comprising a front UV protection device.
