The method involves connecting color measuring devices (20, 21) together by a communication connection (22). Color regulation is made in inking systems (16, 17) of a printing machine (1) i.e. sheet-fed printing press, by the device (21) in dependence of determined deviations of color measured values. A signal from the device (21) in the machine is delivered to the device (20) when the measured values detected by a printing substrate (9) are provided for a given period in a given tolerance field. Color measurement is made on the substrate after delivering the signal to the device (20).
