Internal combustion engine e.g. petrol engine, controlling method for motor vehicle, involves reducing torque produced by engine such that rotational speed of engine is lowered, and stopping fuel injection, if condition is satisfied
The method involves continuously reducing torque produced by an internal combustion engine (1) under continuation of fuel i.e. oil, injection such that rotational speed of the engine is continuously lowered under a preset engine idle-reference rotational speed. The fuel injection is stopped, if a condition is satisfied when the rotational speed of the engine reaches a preset minimal rotational speed that is smaller than the reference rotational speed. The torque is reduced and increased by changing ignition periods using an engine idle regulator (27). An independent claim is also included for a device for controlling an internal combustion engine of a motor vehicle during start-stop operation.
