A method for producing hydrogen- and carbon monoxide-containing gas (oxo gas) (9) by cryogenic separation of a mixture (1) of H 2, CO and methane in a cryogenic gas stripper (K) to give a first, H 2-enriched stream (6) which is heated up (E1, E2), removed from (K) and mixed with at least part (56) of a second, CO-enriched stream (55) (also obtained from the feed (1) in (K)), involves removing (6) from the cooled feed (3) by scrubbing (T5) with a CO-rich liquid (5). An independent claim is included for a system for implementing this method by cryogenic decomposition of (1) as above in a gas stripper (K) containing a methane scrubbing column (T1) and heat exchangers (E1, E2) for cooling and heating process streams, where the system includes a scrubber (T5) in which a first, H 2-enriched gas stream (6) is removed from the cooled feed mixture (3) by washing with CO-enriched liquid (5).
