The method involves increasing a temperature of a particle filter (12), and supplying an oxidizing agent i.e. oxygen, to the particle filter for oxidizing of particles. A reaction rate of the oxidization of the particles is controlled by adjusting the temperature of the particle filter and concentration of the agent, during supplying of the agent. The concentration of the agent is adjusted by mixing inert gas and/or by partially removing the agent from an output medium i.e. atmospheric air, where the concentration of the agent is adjusted to a value of 5 percentages. An independent claim is also included for a device for regenerating a particle filter of an internal combustion engine.
