An anodic oxide layer for electrical conductors, in particular conductors composed of aluminium, a method for producing an anodic oxide layer, and an electrical conductor with anodic oxide layer are intended to comprise, for improving the withstand breakdown voltage and the ductility: a) the use of an electrolyte when producing the oxide layer which, in terms of its type and composition, is oriented to the reference of a sulphuric acid electrolyte, b) the application of at least one selected type of current and c) during a densifying aftertreatment of the surface of the oxide layer, the introduction of a substance which is oriented to the reference of a further densification of an aggregate form of water, such that the oxide layer produced d) has a Martens hardness [HM] of 2300, e) has an increase in wear resistance in comparison with customary characteristic quantities, f) obtains an improvement in the ductility, g) has an improved corrosion resistance and h) can be exposed to a withstand breakdown voltage of more than 300 V.
