The method involves cutting an electrical conductor to a length in a cutting device (101). A crimp device (102) is applied to be provided with a crimp contact. A cutting surface of the cut electrical conductor is tested for existence of errors before fixing the crimp contact. A cut end piece of the electrical conductor is bypassed at a measuring area of sensor devices (1, 2) before supplying electrical conductor to the crimp device. An individual lead protruding from the cutting surface is detected by the sensor devices. An independent claim is also included for a device for contacting an electrical conductor with a contact part.
