A fuel supply arrangement (18) and/or a combustion air conveying arrangement (26) and/or an ignition arrangement (32) are operated based on the determined temperature. The temperature is determined based on an electrical resistance of a system area of the vehicle heating device, where the system area is designed with an electrical conductor. The electrical resistance of the electrical conductor is determined based on electric current.
