The lock (2) has a receiver (6) provided in a housing (5) for insertion of an electronic key (3). The key cooperates with a signal producing element (7) for producing a signal i.e. main power supply signal, for a motor vehicle. The receiver is formed for insertion of different electronic keys. The keys are geometrically varied in size. A slide (8) is arranged in the receiver, and another receiver (9) is present in the slide for insertion of the key (3). The slide is linearly movable in the housing such that the slide is moved backward in the housing during plugging of the key (3).
