The system (1) has a fuel cell (3) for generating electric current. The fuel cell comprises an anode side (5) and a cathode side (6). An oxidant supply device (10) supplies an oxidant to a residual gas burner (7). A reformer (2) generates reformat gas containing hydrogen gas. The reformat gas is supplied to the anode side of the fuel cell. The fuel cell and the residual gas burner are connected such that anode exhaust gas is supplied from the anode side of the fuel cell to the gas burner and burner exhaust gas of the gas burner is supplied to the cathode side of the fuel cell.
