The arrangement (1) has a switching element (15) connected in series with an electrical machine (2) e.g. motor, where the switching element is controlled by a control- and/or regulation unit (12). A potential transformer (23) is coupled with the electrical machine to convert a supply voltage at an input (3) of the arrangement into an operating voltage, where the control- and/or regulating unit controls the potential transformer. The potential transformer includes a switching unit (25), which is coupled with a switching unit (26) over a common inductor (24). An independent claim is also included for a method for operating an electrical machine of a household appliance.
