The device has a separative element (3) e.g. anti-parallary switched thyristor, uncoupling a direct current high voltage intermediate circuit from upper power semiconductors (10-12) and lower power semiconductors (13-15) of power electronics (2). The power semiconductors produce supply voltage of an electrical machine (1) e.g. hybrid drive unit. The separative element is switchable according to measure of an error detection of a controller. The separative element is integrated with the power electronics. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating an electrical machine of a motor vehicle.
