The element (1) has a disk-shaped base body (3) connectable with a drive shaft. The base body has an actuating cam (4) for radial support of a safety catch. An engagement unit (5) is axially spaced from the actuating cam for retrieving the safety catch. A central recess (7) is placed in the base body for form-fit accommodation of the drive shaft. The base body has an increased base (10), by which a boundary region of the actuating cam is formed. The engagement unit is formed as a connecting rod (12) that is attached to the safety catch. An independent claim is also included for a fitting for a vehicle seat.
