The clamping device (114) has driving wheel (102) assigned to internal combustion engine crankshaft and another driving wheel (108) assigned to starter generator. Deviation of clamping wheel (104) against traction mechanism clamping direction (b) is blocked in one operating mode. Crankshaft is initially driven by starter generator in the operating mode, and strand (150) assigned to the clamping wheel is load strand. Deviation of the clamping wheel against other traction mechanism clamping directions is allowed in other operating mode, and strand assigned to the clamping wheel is slack strand. An independent claim is included for a method for operating a clamping device.
