The present invention provides a process for making nanowires of metal oxides with low valence state dopants. The nanomaterials / materials with low valence state dopants are important because they have significantly different characteristics than materials of the same higher valence state composition. The nanowires show markedly improved lateral properties. The invented process shows a process for producing various types of nanowires in oxide form, which are applicable to various applications. The invention provides a method which gives a controlled size of nanowires, and is suitable for producing nanowires / nanomaterials of the desired metal oxides with dopants in valence states.
