The device has a bending sensitive sensor (A), which returns an optical recording measurement at a bend in sensor. The sensor is wrapped in a material. A carrier unit (T) is provided for the attachment of the casing (U). A pressure device (D) is provided to apply pressure of the position sensor (M) to the casing (U) at the position (P). The pressure device and the optical sensors (A) are deformed in an area (B). A determination is made to determine the position (P) by a result of the deformation of the measured measurement (S). An independent claim is included for a method for determining a position of a sensor.
