The method involves interposing an elastic deformable unit i.e. helical spring (4), between a wheel (1) and a rotative lever arm (3) where an effort is applied by an operator. The arm is turned, and the deformation of the elastic unit is measured at the same moment where the wheel starts to turn. The deformation represents the measurement of the residual torque on the wheel. An assembly constituted by the lever arm and the elastic unit is turned with respect to the wheel in a reference position i.e. calibration position, before carrying out the deformation measurement. An independent claim is also included for a device for measuring a residual torque on a wheel of a vehicle, comprising a frame.
