The engine (1) has an oil pan (10) made of magnetic material, and an induction heating unit (2) arranged near the oil pan. The heating unit heats the pan so as to heat oil contained in the pan. The heating unit has copper coils (12) that are attached below the pan and supplied with alternating current by a battery (8) of the engine and a direct current to alternating current converter (9). A temperature measurement unit (3) e.g. gauge, measures temperature of the oil contained in the pan. An independent claim is also included for a method of heating an oil pan of an engine in a vehicle.
